What You Should Know When Contacting a Treatment Facility

  1. Write down date time and the person to whom you speak with.

  2. The treatment centers will give specific instructions such as; call back every morning at 8am or call every Wednesday, make sure you write them down.

  3. When calling treatment centers put the persons name you are calling for on every list. To keep the wait time down and as a courtesy, remove the person off the other lists when they get in to treatment.

  4. Be sure to tell the facility if the person you are calling for has ever used IV needles to do drugs. They will be listed as a priority population to get them into treatment faster. The rank order of persons to receive preference for admission is as follows:
    • Pregnant injecting drug user
    • Pregnant substance abuser
    • Injecting drug user.

The places you will be calling will need to know the IV drug user information.

5. Don’t give up, just because there is a waiting list!  Some waiting lists may be 3 to 4 weeks, while others could only be 2 to 3 days. Remember a person can be seen at outpatient services until they get into a treatment facility.
